You use a screen reader, or you need things in plainer language
Make other people’s documents usable
Describe an image that shipped without alt text. Turn a dense PDF into clean headings and short paragraphs. Take a page written at graduate reading level and rewrite it at eighth grade without losing what it says.
Try saying
“Rewrite this at an eighth-grade reading level. Keep every fact. Short sentences, one idea each.”
Where it lets you down
Simplifying sometimes drops a qualifier that changes the meaning — “may” becomes “will,” “up to” disappears. On anything legal or medical, keep the original next to the plain version.
